Many assignments are graded on sentence writing ability.  The majority of the READ 180 writing assignments are QuickWrites.  The rubric below is used for the majority of the assignments done in class. The rubric is written and should be read by the student. 

 

3 Point Rubric for Sentence Writing

Scoring Rationale

I received a 0 because

·        I did not write a sentence. or

·        My sentence was no readable and/or I did not spell any words correctly. or

·        I did not write my sentence in English.

·        I did not follow directions.

I received a 1 because

·        My sentence lacked a subject and/or a predicate. and/or

·        My sentence only had one word spelled correctly. and/or

·        I made many errors in mechanics.  and/or

·        I made many errors in the vocabulary I used. and/or

·        I made many errors in grammar and/or in syntax.

·        My sentence had so many errors that the teacher could not figure out what I was trying to say.

·        I wrote a good sentence but it had nothing to do with what the teacher wanted me to write a sentence on.

I received a 2 because

·        My sentence contained a subject and a predicate but I still had minor errors in vocabulary and/or grammar. and/or

·        My sentence had one spelling mistake. and/or

·        I forgot to write a word in my sentence.

I received a 3 because

·        My sentence contained a subject and a predicate with no errors in it.

·        I followed directions.
